About Us

Hi. Thanks for visiting HuckabuckHills.com.

* Currently, Huckbuck Hills is still in development and not open for guests. Tours are available upon request. Please check in with as we move toward completion in the near future.

Huckabuck Hills was purchased in June of 2021 by Jason Sorapuru as the culmination of a career in real estate investing and fulfillment of a dream 20 years in the making. Huckabuck Hills is a project that I have imagined for a long while and has now come to fruition.

Huckabuck Hills is located on 16 acres of rolling hills in the red clay of Magnolia, MS - original home to the Choctaw Tribe of indigenous people. The Choctaw were pre-dated by a group of people called the Mississippians. The Mississippians were a mound building culture that flourished from appropriately 800 A.D. to 1600 A.D. The are of Huckbuck Hills was occupied by the Plaquemine Mississippians.

The Choctaw were deft traitiors, farmers, and warriors. They participated in sports such as Stickball and Chunky Stone! (Something which I hope I never have to pass!) They had far reaching trade routes with many other native and foreign cultures east of the Mississippi River to Alabama.

Here are a few Choctaw words relevant to your visit to Huckbuck Hills.

• ITI - Tree

• OKA - water

• Hashi - sun

• Nuktulee - calm

• Vlakaya - sunrise

• Ikhvnanchi - teacher

Huckabuck Hills is envisioned as a place to escape from everyday life and experience unaltered natural beauty. We at Huckabuck Hills are working to provide a serene, creative, restorative, safe place for people to regenerate their light, rejuvenate their soul and be inspired by beauty to create an even brighter light for themselves and the people around them. We endeavor to spread love, compassion, and action throughout our communities by inviting others into our positive energy at Huckabuck Hills.

Huckabuck Hills has also been created to provide a rich, judgement free environment so people can freely express themselves and explore the experience of living without fear or doubt.

In order for Huckabuck Hills patrons to have a restorative experience we encourage quality nutrition, exercise, rest, creative expression, and meditation of all forms. We hope you are inspired by the natural beauty of the land, animals, and architecture that inhabit it so that you can continue to keep in touch with your real purpose on this planet. Although, Huckabuck Hills welcomes all people, we were imagined as a retreat for teachers and artists.

So you are probably wondering …. BACKSTORY - How the universe works

A Louisiana artist named Sunpie Barnes recommended my partner, Kina B. Joshua to participate as a artist in residence at a place called A Studio in the Woods on the Westbank. I had been trying to buy investment property in NOLA but it was out of my price range. A problem Kina was very aware of while at A Studio in the Woods. Kina met an environmental researcher from Tulane University doing an evaluation of the studio and concluded it was sinking. He recommended to Kina to buy in McComb, MS. It was high and dry there. So after you do one of the two things you can do there and since we don’t smoke cigarettes; Kina started looking online for property in McComb. We found some nice stuff at great prices. I contacted my agent in NOLA, Kristi August. She put me in touch with a Mississippi real estate agent named Ethleen Herron. In the meantime, Kina contacted a friend in McComb who recommended we look in Magnolia, MS for even more bargains. I bought a house in McComb. Sold a rental in NOLA and used profits to buy Huckabuck Hills! I paid 3,500/acre and bought 16 acres of totally raw land. A dream come true.
